Club News
The club has enjoyed a fairly busy schedule over the first few months of the year.
January
January saw us complete the group hockey and skittles fixtures, although probably the less said about these the better! We did manage to beat Illminster at hockey, but they did only have eight players. The clubs skittles form had not improved for the annual club V advisory match at the White Horse in Cheriton, which was easily won by the more experienced team. Wincanton sports ground hosted the county netball tournament, but our team failed to use their home advantage, and despite playing well went out in the group stages.

Visits and talk
Blackmore Vale Dairies and Wincanton Fire Station were both kind enough to host very interesting visits from the club. We learnt how the dairy makes a huge range of products that are sold all over the country, all with milk from local dairy farms; they even laid on a fine spread of food for us to test it. At the Fire Station we got to see inside and all around the fire engine, find out about all the different jobs they are called out to and have a go on the hoses, amazingly no one got soaked! Somerset and Dorset Air Ambulance came to give us a fascinating talk about how they work, what they do and just how much it costs to keep this valuable service running.
Bumps and bruises
In February a coach load of young farmers went up to Bristol ice rink for a Friday evening of 'disco' ice skating. Needless to say there were quite a few bumps and bruises by the end of the night and peoples discomfort was increased as the bus driver got lost and we ended up taking a rather long way home.
South West Area weekend
The annual South West Area weekend took place in the middle of March and about 20 Wincanton members headed west all the way to Newquay. No one was competing in anything this year so it was purely a social visit, and everyone had a good time with no arrests or hospital admissions. The most worrying aspect of the weekend was most of the boys' willingness to dress up as school girls. It should be pointed out though that Michael Osborne was the only one to keep his skirt and wig on all night!

Charity quiz
The clubs annual charity quiz this year was an Easter quiz and was held at the Dolphin. A record turn out saw teams having to sit on the floor, but it was won once again by Keith and Ann Hoskins' team. Thanks to so many people turning out nearly £200 was raised for CLIC Sargent.
Looking forward
There is plenty to look forward to over the coming months with club competitions, the rally, stock judging and our Country and Western Disco at Yenston on 12th April.
